“The best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without one.” The fear of being out of work seems to be holding a lot of people back from doing what they believe is right but at some point in your life you have to ask yourself “is this a job or is it a career?”
I love Internet marketing. It’s my passion and I often go to great lengths to share what I know and learn from others as I use social media. I really wonder though how many people can actually say that they love what they do ? How much money did they pay you to give up on your dreams and become a part in a machine ?
First some realities; most people cannot afford to be out of work for any length of time. This in turn leads to fear of “not fitting into your workplace” and getting dinged, or worse, on a review. I know this but that fear should and cannot rule your life to the point where you go in and just do without thinking and contributing. Believe it or not a recent survey found that close to 70% of employees would be willing to exchange bigger salaries for being happier in their jobs. And what does happier mean ? It means being thought of as someone who provides value and is listened to. It means that your boss understands you and you understand her, him. You have each others back and he,she, never asks you to do something that they themselves wouldn’t do.
I guess what I am trying to say here is that you should never give up on your dream to be a valuable member of a productive team. Yes there are some companies that treat their employees like numbers on a spreadsheet but there are a lot of good companies out there too who know and want talented people.
If you count the days down till the weekend or till 5PM than start to think about where you are headed. We spend too damn much of our time at work for it not to be fun, challenging and help us grow as people and employees.
